Remember when I sent you over to the Bloggies to nominate your favorite blogs? You did that, right? Now it’s time to vote for the nominees! 7th Annual Weblog Awards aka The Bloggies! Who will win this year? (And aren’t you tired of seeing some of the same ole blogs in there? Could we do a better job next year of nominating? I mean really, people. There are millions of blogs out there, some are really very good. We don’t have to nominate the same ones over and over! OK, go vote!

Have you been to Atlantic City? I have. Several times.
When I lived in Jersey, AC was about an hour from my house. The Atlantic City Casinos were a fun way to spend an evening - tossing quarters into the slots and people watching. Once, some dude got ticked off with me because I was in the SMOKING section actually SMOKING. The room was pretty empty because it was only like 5pm or something, I was there first, and he sat down next to me and proceeded to gripe because I wouldn’t put out my cigarette. So what did I do, I chain smoked til he left - just to be annoying. That was a fun night. It was also the same night I bumped into an old friend/enemy in an elevator. I could go on but it’s probably best to forget that, at least for now.
My oldest daughter goes back to Jersey a couple of times a year and they always head to Atlantic City for at least one night. When she turned 21, she chose to fly back and celebrate her birthday there.
If you haven’t been, you should definitely go, at least once. It’s always interesting and always fun. That’s my idea of a good vacation.

We live in the land of springs and I’ve never actually been to one of the springs! My kids, on the other hand, go quite a bit. Last year Michelle bought some inflatable tubes because she was tired of renting them all of the time. This year, I wonder if she’d like an inflatable kayak! I’m a fan of the paddle ski, myself but this isn’t about me since I never go tot he springs.
After reading more about inflatable boats and kayaks, I wonder why my mom didn’t choose an inflatable rather than the rigid one she bought. I would think, at her age, the inflatable would be easier to paddle - lighter weight and easier to steer because of it. I bet she’d like it better than what she has now. I’ll send her a link to the site, there is a ton of good information here to help her decide which type would be best for her.

You might, if someone nominates you and a zillion of your closest friends and relatives (and strangers too) vote for you. Hey, it could happen. You have a good blog, don’t you? And if you don’t think you can win, I bet you have a friend or family member who is deserving, don’t you? You should go and nominate your favorites right now. Go on, anyone can do it. You don’t even have to have a blog in order to nominate someone. I’m not kidding you. Go, try it, it’s easy!

So how much weight have you gained so far this month? I don’t do scales so I can’t answer that question but I know I’ve gained. For me, gaining isn’t a problem; I tend to be underweight. But I know I’m in the minority and a lot of you have been struggling with your weight, particularly this month. The best advice on this blog is quit cutting calories so darn much! Every time you drop your calories below 1200, you’re screwing with metabolism and that’s just going to mess you up in the end. Healthy choices, portion control and PATIENCE, lots and lots of PATIENCE, that’s the solution to the weight loss problem.
Have you ever thought about personal training? Check out the No Excuses Gym blog. I love the post about germ-free gym workouts and the 20 Ways to Squeeze Exercise Into Your Life list is good.
I don’t usually recommend diet and exercise websites or blogs but in this case, I’ll make an exception. There’s nothing fad-like on this blog, there’s no questionable advice and no “lose weight fast” schemes. Good solid information, that’s it. That’s what a personal trainer should give you. I didn’t say it was easy advice to follow, wouldn’t it be nice if it was?

There was a time when I liked bookkeeping and accounting duties. The columns of numbers, they were nice and neat and organized and there were no hidden meanings. Then, life got complicated and so did the numbers.
I used some bookkeeping software for awhile, that didn’t help because I was too busy to actually enter any data into the program. So I went back to the good old pencil and paper method, talk about dinosaur days! Don’t worry, I went back to software but it might be time to grab Bookkeeping Quickbooks. If things get any more complicated, getting the folks at Accounting Paradise involved might be smart.

When I was a kid, getting a bike for Christmas was a big deal. Now, not so much. Unless it’s something like a beach cruiser bicycle. That’s a pretty big deal.
I have been meaning to attempt a long bike ride and at the moment the only bike assembled here is the “trick bike” with all sorts of funky pegs and stuff on it for the older boys to do stunts. That’s not my kind of a bike. I want the Firmstrong TANKER Beach Cruiser or the Firmstrong URBAN PRO Man Beach Cruiser. No pink girlie bikes for me, even if they don’t look really girly (which the women’s bikes don’t). Hmmm upon reflection, this Yellow Classic Cruiser is better. I’d like the Tanker or the Urban Pro mens bikes to be pink or purple or a hot green.
Reading the YXZ Bikes Blog makes me smile. All of those happy people with their happy bikes. It makes me want to give someone a bike. Too bad they don’t have a tricycle sized beach cruiser bike, I could give it to the Heir to the Throne. Maybe I should just order a 20″ Urban Boy for him now, he’ll eventually be able to ride it. Surely kids will still be riding bikes 4 or 5 years from now.
Maybe I’ll get a bike for Christmas.

I’m not really job hunting, not actively job hunting. I like my current full-time job and I have an awful lot of part-time gigs happening but if the perfect new job just fell into my lap, I’d take it. I somehow doubt that will happen from my listing on this Freelance Services site called, ServLance but that’s because I’m an unusual sort of freelancer.
I can see how ServLance just might work forsome people looking for freelance gigs or employers looking for temporary freelancers. Just surfing the Servlancers and Servpacks is interesting. If you’re looking for a professional to write a press release, you can find someone to do that for you for less than $200. Need some business cards made? Again you can find someone to do that for a couple of hundred bucks. Someone is even selling page opitmization services for $25, sheesh I should do that!
Really interesting stuff is happening here. It feels to me like this is the type of webservice that’s going to become increasingly popular and this type of job hunting and head hunting is going to start happening more often. It has the social networking feel of a myspace without all of the cheesyness that would be distracting on a job hunting/head hunting site.
Servlance was easy to set up. There is a basic aka free version but the expanded versions offer more perks and probably make it easier for potential employers to find you. I’m interested in the features that allow employers to post reviews for services rendered and the “total earnings” section. The site is new so there aren’t a lot of reviews visible or a lot of people showing earned money. As they grow, it will be interesting to see how often employers pick up untested employees.

When I think back to gifts my children received over the last 20 years, I can honestly say that telescopes, microscopes, binoculars and flashlights have all been huge hits. Oddly enough, microscopes and flashlights were the bigger hits out of those four. It doesn’t even take really expensive flashlights or super expensive binoculars to make a kid happy.

If you’re looking for one last gift, don’t overlook the flashlight… or the binoculars.

I was fiddling around with Group Loop this morning. It’s a very simple to use collaborative tool. Not a ton of bells and whistles but the simplicity of use makes up for that. As soon as you register, you’re invited to invite people to your group. There’s a spot to post messages and comments to the messages are permitted. There’s a group calendar and a spot for sharing files. It would be nice if there was a photo album, but since this is more like a work group tool than a community play tool, I understand why there isn’t. (Or maybe there are more tools on the premium versions and I’ve just forgotten?
The GroupLoop blog had a post comparing GroupLoop to MyFamily and I’d have to agree. MyFamily is a lot more complicated to get started with and it’s really “busy” which is why I never really used it very much when it was first launched as a free service.
