Have you seen the Good Mood Diet? or the Good Mood Diet Blog?
I know, the last thing we need is another diet. Particularly one that sounds as gimmicky as this one does. (Is gimmicky a real word?) I like bits of it but I’m completely turned off by the “1 week to erasing depression” thing. In one week you can erase depression? Give me a break.
Yes eating some foods can help you feel better. Yes, losing weight will probably also help you feel better. But 1 week to erasing depression is pushing it. A lot. Bad tag line, really bad. So don’t buy the book, ok?
I had no idea the audiobook rental issue was such a problem in the UK. Apparently it’s been quite a struggle to get the audiobook rental business going in the UK, there was no legal precedent for the rental of audiobooks. Lucky Brits can now get Books on CD, from Simply Audiobooks, the first company in the UK to offer them - legally!
I’m impressed with the number of titles that are available for children. Some audiobook rental companies have a really skimpy children’s section. Wait, it isn’t just the Brits who are lucky - I’m feeling lucky too! Simply Audiobooks also has a site for Amercians to rent ! Excellent news for audiobook lovers around the world!

Words rule around here. Let’s focus on TW who plays with words all of the time. And, of course she reads 3xs more than anyone else in the house and is always stumbling upon a weird word and asking “have you ever seen this word in a book before”? And off we go discussing the word, its origin and its potential meaning - before we head for an online dictionary to find out the real answers.
I cannot tell you how many times we’ve used an online dictionary or one of those handheld readers dictionaries only to come up empty. I think the Allwords.com dictionary is the answer to that problem. It allows four search result types and it seems to bring back more “slang” type results than other online dictionaries. I’m sure we’ll put it to the test shortly.
This would be a good resource for kids, too. All of the times a kid asks what a word means or how to spell a word - well Allwords lets you type in part of a word and sort results by “starts with” or “ends with”. That’s a nice feature when you can’t remember the exact word you’re looking for or your don’t know how to spell it.
The other thing I like about Allwords is the ability to surf the dictionary. That’s more important than the search engine, if you ask me. There’s nothing better than randomly surfing words. The links for word lovers section isn’t bad either.
Happy Word Surfing!

My friend the sassymonkey posted a blog entry about gifts for book lovers yesterday on Blogher. I have to agree with her - a gift card makes me very happy. Also bookshelves would make me happy. But I’d rather have a house with a real library! Heh.
This year, there will be fewer book gifts than ever before - because we have no more room for books! it’s upsetting! Here are the books I have either bought or am planning to buy and give as gifts:
The Villain’s Guide to Better Living
On Bullshit
Scuttles Big Wish
5 assorted Animorph’s books
The Portable Dorothy Parker
The Lonely Planet Code Green
Psyche in a Dress
The Vegetarian Manifesto
The Art of Modern Rock: The Poster Explosion
Paint it Black: A Guide to Gothic Homemaking
Birds of Florida
Also, some bookstore gift cards will be given.
