A cell phone I won’t buy

Filed under: daily life, family, shopping, tech, women — newandunusual @ 4:24 pm

I just bought a new cell phone. I like it, though I haven’t figured out all of the features yet. TW was actually just bugging me about the video aspect. In December, it will be time to buy another phone.

I can tell you one thing my phone does not have, and I’m glad - it’s a BMI calculator built in. This phone is wrong. A cell phone “marketed to women” meaning a cell phone that lets you check your BMR and BMI.

The next phone I buy won’t be a Philips, I can tell you that much.

Time for a new phone

Filed under: daily life, payperpost, tech, websites — newandunusual @ 3:51 pm

I am officially looking for a new cell phone. This means I am also looking for a new cell phone plan. Right now I’m no a Nextel plan, and so are two of the big kids. Jenn and my mom and my sister and my brother all have Verizon. Last year, I didn’t switch. I just renewed, kept my old phone and took a $50 credit as my renewal bonus. I can’t do that this year, my phone is seriously tired. The buttons don’t want to “press” and it shuts down - totally just shuts down for no reason - at random moments.

I’ve been lookin at the top ten free Verizon cell phones. Wirefly also has other plans and phones listed. This makes it pretty simple to compare all the plans, and make a good choice. Do I want a pink Razr? I might.

Placeblogger

Filed under: blogs, tech, travel — newandunusual @ 8:26 am

Well, it’s officially live. Placeblogger that is. I think it’s a great idea. But I’m less than thrilled with the results from the 4 searches I’ve done there. Surely there are better blogs than the ones in the database for the areas I searched. Or maybe there aren’t??? If that’s the case then some people need to get busy place blogging!

I really wish I had just a little more time in the day/week. I’d love to do my own “place blogging”. Maybe my life will be different in a few months and I can do it. Maybe that should be a resolution. To make place blogging a reality in my life?

PPP and Performancing

Filed under: blogs, payperpost, tech — newandunusual @ 10:31 pm

Well, well, well. I expected Pay Per Post to buy something but not this. Performancing, how cool. Totally unexpected and totally awesome acquisition for PPP. Now not only can bloggers make money with their blogs, they can have some great tools to help them along.

PPP didn’t acquire the entire Performancing suite of services, which is too bad because the Firefox editor and the ad network are excellent. But that’s ok, the metrics tools and the online classifieds service actually go along really well with the PPP idea.

I like the Performancing Blogranking widget. It seems to be right on target with the other blogrankings and when your blogranking varies a bit, it’s a quick way to see exactly what rank you are - which is important when taking PPP opps that indicate your blog needs a specific ranking. Good tool for PPP bloggers. Some of the sections of the metrics area haven’t always worked well for me in the past but they felt like one-time glitches. Things like the activity on specific posts and incoming visits from search engines have felt off, when looking at other metrics trackers.

All in all, I’m happy with the acquisition. I think it’s a good move for PPP and for posties.

DealKing

Filed under: holidays, payperpost, shopping, tech — newandunusual @ 4:25 pm

Life is weird. About a half hour ago I was looking for a promotional code for a certain website and a search sent me to DealKing. They didn’t have the code but I found myself wandering around anyway. It was the “hot offers” section on the right nav of DealKing.com that caught my eye. I don’t need a cell phone but if I did, it seems like these cash back offers from DealKing would fit the bill. Then, I went off to PPP to see if there were any new blog opportunities and the DealKing opp caught my eye so back I went - there’s a tiny mp3 player that would be excellent, $10 shipped plus cash back from DealKing. The Digital Picture Frame is priced well, and also there’s the whole cash back thing. Hmmm maybe I’m not finished with my Christmas shopping after all.

Health Search Engine

Filed under: family, health, tech, websites — newandunusual @ 5:20 pm

Have you ever searched the web for health information? Of course you have, everyone has - some of you just won’t admit it. Next time you’re in need of health info, try the Healia search enging. The options for sorting results are fantastic. All search engines should offer these types of sorting possiblities.

A little drive this holiday

Filed under: holidays, payperpost, shopping, tech — newandunusual @ 6:58 pm

I totally love the idea of giving a personalized flash drive to the kids for Christmas. Prince J and Michelle are so in love with their little flash drives/jump drives/thumb drives that they would take one look at a colorful, personalized drive and squee!!!!! at the first glimpse of such a gift. I cannot believe I didn’t think of it, considering how thrilled we all were with the jump drives given out in the Blogher schwag bags.

I love the blue, I wish there was green and I wish there was gold - maybe there is and I just need to surf further into the site? I don’t know, but I’m adding these to the shopping list NOW. Hmmm what to engrave on them, nothing as boring as initials or names or anything. It’s got to be something cool and unusual.

The Best Inventions

Filed under: entertainment, tech — newandunusual @ 10:51 pm

Time’s Best Inventions is fun. I have to agree that youtube was the best invention of the year. In the other categories, I’m having trouble choosing. What do you think?
