Christmas Food Gifts

Filed under: food, health, holidays — newandunusual @ 6:43 pm

In my oh so humble opinion, there is no such thing as a great food gift. There are some “ok” food gifts and a lot of truly horrible food gifts but no GREAT food gifts. But my opinion on this topic isn’t worth much because I have food issues.

Since I recognize my food issues are just that - my issues - I’ve learned to trust the advice of some important foodie people in my life. One of those people is Elaine Magee, the Recipe Doctor. Elaine is going to be sharing 12 great food gift ideas in a blog series, 12 Days of Christmas.

I can trust Elaine to give good food advice - and you can trust her too.

Shop 4 Miles

Filed under: payperpost, shopping, websites — newandunusual @ 6:20 pm

Weird. I was just surfing some airline mileage shopping sites yesterday and now I see it on PPP. I’m not a frequent flyer and I hope to never be one but I do fly, and I do have frequent flyer accounts.

Shop 4 Miles has a wide range of shopping categories. A lot of times, these sites have merchandise that simply doesn’t appeal to me. They offer items I would never buy. I’m not having trouble finding stuff I’d buy here. And the prices are consistent with other online shopping sites. So you aren’t paying more for a pair of Gap jeans just to get the mileage. That’s probably THE most important thing.

I just pulled 5 items from my holiday shopping list - I can order all five through Shop 4 Miles and wind up with 300 miles. That’s not a huge number of miles but if I’m going to buy this stuff anyway, I might as well add some mileage to my US Airways frequent flyer account, right?

To steal a lyric from Ani…. I’ve never been a Cute Overload fan. I am, however, an Ugly Overload fan.

Moving to Southwest Florida?

Filed under: payperpost — newandunusual @ 8:20 pm

First, does it bother anyone else to say “southwest Florida”? It’s probably just me but I consider everythng in south Florida to just be south Florida - the distance between east and west is incredibly small, ya know?

Anyway, if you’re looking for a duplex in “southwest Florida” then you might want to click this link: affordable housing, duplex, SW Florida, Equity The cost of a duplex down there is pretty high, a friend was finding them for $350K six months ago so the price listed here seems pretty good. Go see for yourself.

Santa Needs Our Help

Filed under: food, holidays — newandunusual @ 1:54 am

Santa asked me to post this video on this blog so that’s what I’m doing. I’m no fool, I do exactly what Santa tells me, as quickly as I possibly can. Which means I’m also donating - but not just because Santa asked.

Coffee = Healthy

Filed under: Uncategorized — newandunusual @ 11:45 pm

mmmmm Coffeeeeeee. I’ll have to be honest and transparant and say that I drink a lot of coffee and I don’t really care whether the coffee I drink is healthy or it isn’t healthy. I’m still going to drink it, as long as it tastes good. Pay Per Post has this opportunity to write about 1st Healthy Coffee.com and so here I am.

I submitted my name and email address to the folks at 1st Healthy Coffee and they immediately sent me a note telling me that Shane will be sharing more information with me. Well hello Shane! Share info, cool, but would you share some coffee? That’s the question. I’m listening to a podcast about this special coffee and wait, Shane’s talking - hi Shane!

This coffee, it has Reishi mushrooms in it. I like mushrooms. But I’m not sure I’ve ever had mushrooms in my coffee before. It has less caffeine, a lot of people find that to be important. It has antioxidants, my friend Elaine Magee (the Recipe Doctor) will like that.

Very interesting - I think I will add a box of Gano Black to my Christmas Wish List.

Save the Earth! Wrap Green!

Filed under: family, holidays, home — newandunusual @ 11:34 pm

I think we should do this more often, with smaller gift items. Or maybe even some larger ones.

I’m sure the big kids would be thrilled to find DVDs and CDs and Video Games wrapped in bandanas. I wonder how RJ would feel if her books were wrapped in that hoodie she wants. I really dislike the huge amount of wrapping paper discarded on Christmas day. I wasn’t thrilled with the birthday wrapping paper on Saturday, and it was only half dozen gifts worth…. Imagine the paper when you’ve got six kids and 2 adults at Christmas.

Bulk bandanas, I’m off in search of them right now.

It’s that time of year….

Filed under: holidays, payperpost, shopping — newandunusual @ 6:25 pm

The time of year when people find themselves short on cash and sometimes short on credit. When that happens, you go looking for a new credit card, don’t you? Of course you do. But how do you know which card is best for you?

You can use this nifty little search for Credit Cards to make it interesting. You can search for cards available to those with poor credit or for cards available to those with excellent credit. You can search only for cards that give cash back or rewards. You can search for low interest cards. You name it, you can search for it.

If you’re going to grab more credit this holiday season, you should take a few minutes to do some credit card research. Don’t get the wrong card.

Gifts.com

Filed under: holidays, shopping, websites — newandunusual @ 7:58 pm

TW is impressed with Ask.com’s holiday gift guide, Gifts.com. On first glance, it feels like I’m at Target or something. So I wasn’t feeling the love for it that TW did. But, their gift categoreis are very good. Look at gifts for teen girls - and then the various “teen girl types”. Love it. Click the “bookworm teen girl” - excellent suggestions, every single one of them.

TW is right - Ask.com has done a very nice job.

Icons!

Filed under: payperpost, websites — newandunusual @ 5:12 pm

Back in the day, I was a bit of an icon freak. I had folder upon folder, filled with icons, on my hard drive. I owned dozens of cds with icons. I had webpages with icons all over them. I look back now and just shake my head. What was I thinking? Who really needs tens of thousands of icons stored on their computer?

A really good 100 ought to be enough for any normal person, particularly now that there are better search engines and good websites that make it easy to find icons. If you’re in search of icons, please don’t resort to old-fashioned, “that’s so 80s” style icons. Go clean. Go current. Go XP style. These XP Style Icons are nice, not super expensive, and can be used in a lot of different ways. And please, whatever you do, don’t let your icons blink. Also, Microsoft clip-art, it’s old and tired. Don’t use that unless you just have to. I get tired of seeing the same old icons and images all of the time, don’t you?

If you’re an icon freak like I used to be, or if your job requires you to find as many different icons to represent “email” as possible, then a place like Icons Galore can really work for you. They have 97 email application icons. 97. Freaks! Heh.
