Peeps!

Filed under: entertainment, food, holidays — newandunusual @ 2:58 pm

I love Peeps. Well I love the idea of them and their oddness. I’ve even become a fan of their unusual colors and shapes and I don’t mind so much that they no longer just appear at Easter. Well ok I lied, I don’t like that. They should only be available at Easter. But if I think about that too much, I will start to rant. So, back to “I love Peeps,” ok?

The real reason I love peeps is because people do cool things with them. The latest cool thing I have seen is Peeps at the Library. I love libraries!

Have Peeps gone to space? Does anyone know? I mean REALLY gone to space, like in a shuttle with an astronaut (preferably not a deranged female astronaut but whatever…)

More travel

Filed under: payperpost, travel — newandunusual @ 2:57 pm

I’m heading to NYC in the early part of April for work. Then, a few weeks later we’re going to Charlotte to help my mom babysit Heir to the Throne. All in all, I’d rather be booking a Bangkok Flight! I could use a vacation.

You folks in the UK ought to check out Dial a Flight. HEATHROW to BANGKOK is from £250 (+ £139 tax). Curse the weak dollar! Enjoy your international travel while the British pound is strong! You’ll regret it if you don’t.

A cell phone I won’t buy

Filed under: daily life, family, shopping, tech, women — newandunusual @ 4:24 pm

I just bought a new cell phone. I like it, though I haven’t figured out all of the features yet. TW was actually just bugging me about the video aspect. In December, it will be time to buy another phone.

I can tell you one thing my phone does not have, and I’m glad - it’s a BMI calculator built in. This phone is wrong. A cell phone “marketed to women” meaning a cell phone that lets you check your BMR and BMI.

The next phone I buy won’t be a Philips, I can tell you that much.

Spring is in the air!

Filed under: daily life, family, home, payperpost, shopping — newandunusual @ 1:33 pm

Well it’s in the air down here in Florida. In fact it has been in the air for a good long while and we really need to get into the garden and whip it into shape - before it is too late. The bamboo has taken over, the square foot gardens are growing wild and the fruit trees need some serious attention. Let’s not even think about the patio that has somehow acquired an unusual array of oddities that people have put out there for “temporary storage”.

The job and thinking about the job is overwhelming. I’ve found wandering around gardening websites for inspiration helps. Remember that gnome site I talked about last year? Well the folks over there have added a bunch of new items to their stock. Maybe I will treat our garden to some Stepping Stones once I’ve got it all neat and tidy. Only problem with that is trying to decide which one(s) to choose. I’ve never seen so many different stepping stones. (Please don’t suggest the frogs or the gator - other than that, help me choose 3 or 4, please!)

Better than Sudoku

Filed under: family, holidays, shopping — newandunusual @ 10:26 pm

Ya know I bought my mom Sudoku toilet paper for Christmas right? (Well I did, but it didn’t arrive til after Christmas so I’m going to send it to her for Mother’s Day. Nothing says “thank you mom” better than toilet paper, in my personal opinion.) Anyway, this tp is even better! I’m working on special tp for everyone on my Christmas list! I think my ex-in laws would love some TP with a photo that my son took of his grandfather holding a fish about 20 years ago. (They live on a lake and have a bathroom decorated completely with fish!)

This is fun!

I love a good rumor!

Filed under: blogs, payperpost — newandunusual @ 6:03 pm

Have you heard any good PPP rumors lately? I bet you have since PPP has been teasing us about a big announcement - coming soon! Will it increase site traffic? Of course it will, that’s the name of the game for posties and advertisers alike, isn’t it? Without site traffic, we’d all be stuck with dumb text ads and ridiculous banners cluttering up our sidebars!

The question is, WHAT will the announcement be? Honestly, I have no idea!

Have Scoble and Calcanis both decided to embrace the Postie Way and become posties themselves? Just having Scoble agree to be the keynote speaker at Postie Con helps reduce the negative stigma around “pay per post”. Nah, Scoble is too busy being Scoble (and getting ready to be a dad again) and Calcanis is too busy being, well you know… So that can’t be it.

So what besides Scoble and Calcanis bring in traffic? Blogging about sex always brings in traffic! Maybe PPP is going to start a spin-off porn site? Nah.

The PPP offices are in Orlando, home of Mickey Mouse himself, so maybe they are hooking up with Lord Disney to take over the blogosphere? Possible, very possible.

Digg, if you get a post on digg then you definitely increase traffic. Is PPP buying DIGG? hahaha, that would be amusing, wouldn’t it?

Cute baby animal photos included with every PPP blog entry? That would bring in traffic. Or what if every Postie was required to share a secret, (a la Post Secret), that would totally rake in the viewers (I better start a list of secrets I can spill so I’m ready!)

Politics can bring page views if you get someone like Coulter spouting off. Or maybe PPP is teaming up with the ladies on The View? Or Oprah! Yeaaaaa it’s Oprah! Oprah is going to become a Postie! That’s what the big announcement is going to be.

Oprah is going to be a Postie! Spread the word!

The Tube

Filed under: daily life, travel, websites — newandunusual @ 5:19 pm

We were in London last month, I mentioned that, right? We spent a LOT of time in the Tube or the Underground or the Subway - whatever you prefer to call it. We called it The Tube and occasionally we called it HELL (5pm rush hour traffic was madness).

We also called it interesting and fun. I wish more big cities had underground transportation systems. Check out this site that lists the Top Underground Transit Systems. There are some great photos and videos. Interesting stuff.

So I’m not pregnant

Filed under: family, payperpost, shopping — newandunusual @ 4:01 pm

Earlier in the week, I made a joke on another blog about being pregnant. I’ve had some queasy stomach issues and then out of the blue, some weird cravings. But no, I’m not pregnant, though it would be AWESOME to be pregnant again - just one more time.

I loved being pregnant. I loved everything about it. OK not everything. Not the morning sickness (which I had 24 hours a day with the first child and 6 hours a day with the second). Also, not the maternity clothes.

Luckily, advances have been made in the clothing front. Maternity clothes are a lot nice, a lot better quality (without having to spend the child’s college fund) and even better, you don’t have to actually BUY maternity pants! b-buckles has this interesting hip & cool b-buckles. I’m not really sure whether they are “hip” or not, but I do know they are very cool and very interesting.

You choose the b-buckles size based on your pre-pregnancy pants size. $22 and you can keep wearing your favorite, perfect pair of jeans, all through your pregnancy. No more maternity jeans! Yea! I want to be pregnant!

A roll of tape and a roll of soap

Filed under: daily life, family, shopping — newandunusual @ 7:43 pm

We have tape dispenser issues in this house. Some kid or another is constantly taking the tape and not returning it. I’ll go on a bedroom cleaning binge and find dozens of rolls of tape. It annoys me. I’d like to ban tape forever!

But then I see this cute frog tape dispenser and I think “Michelle would love this!” (she collects frogs) But then I remember the tape ban and then I remember she’s put a moratorium on frog gifts because she has too many. Oh well. It was nice to think about.

Which brings me to another type of “tape dispenser” - the soap tape dispenser! I can only imagine what would happen if I bought a few of these for the bathrooms.

Beware of Mold!

Filed under: home, payperpost — newandunusual @ 11:29 pm

Until my father discovered a serious mold problem in his recently purchased home, I really had no idea that mold was such a big problem. It took him 2 years, a ton of money, and 2 lawsuits with the seller to get the issue resolved. And in the meantime, the young grandchildren were not allowed to go in various rooms of the house. You can find some really solid information about mold and mold testing at the NJ Mold Remediation website. Mold is bad, bad news.
